What is the iTero digital scanner?

The iTero® digital scanner records topographical images of your teeth and gums using the latest optical technology. Your orthodontist will use a handheld wand to scan your mouth, and you can breathe or swallow normally throughout the process, which is quick and painless. If you need to sneeze or ask a question, the doctor can stop the scans at any time.

Once your scan is complete, the iTero provides a perfect digital 3D impression of your teeth and soft tissue. Using iTero’s software, your orthodontist can show you how your teeth look now and after treatment.

What are the benefits of the iTero scanner?

The iTero scanner vastly improves the way your orthodontist begins your treatment. The process is comfortable, removing the need for traditional impressions, which means no more unpleasant tastes, smells, and gooey messes.

iTero offers immediate digital results; 3D scans are viewable on screen immediately, even during the scanning process. Patients can watch as the 3D scans are being completed, eliminating the need to go back and repeat scans and giving patients more knowledge and control over the process.

iTero connects seamlessly with the Invisalign Outcome Simulator, which means that scans not only show up on screen in real-time but also the final results of your orthodontic treatment. Patients can suggest changes and look forward to their effects. Patients can ensure the treatments they desire to give them the results they’re expecting, resulting in everyone being happier.

Is the iTero procedure safe?

The iTero scanning process doesn’t expose patients to radiation and is completely safe, even for pregnant patients. The process only uses visible light, no radiation. The iTero scanner also features built-in measures to ensure that scanning doesn’t need to be redone, saving scans every two seconds to the system’s storage drive so that an interruption of power or an unforeseen issue doesn’t force patients and providers to start all over.

How long does an iTero scan take?

Most iTero scans take only 10-15 minutes, but some scans can be completed in 2-3 minutes, depending on a patient’s need. Upon completion of the scan, then the patient can take their time reviewing the issues they hope to resolve and the projected results.

Providing every patient with the most comfortable and accurate results available is a priority for Dr. Kelly Choi and Dr. Joseph Eliason at Smile Orthodontics. To ensure the best orthodontics care, call or make an appointment online with the team today.
